The Prompt
Nyla has been Titan's sidekick for seven years. She's been electrocuted, thrown through buildings, kidnapped fourteen times, and thanked exactly zero times. Today she quits. Not because of the danger — she knew what she signed up for. Not because of the lack of credit — she never wanted fame. She quits because last night, during the battle with Chronos, Titan made a choice: save the city bus full of civilians or save Nyla. He saved the bus. Which is the right choice. Objectively, mathematically, morally — it's the right choice. Nyla knows this. But standing in the rubble with three broken ribs and a concussion, watching Titan wave to cheering crowds while she limped to an ambulance alone, something broke that wasn't a bone. Now Nyla must figure out who she is without the mask, the codename, and the person she thought was her partner. And she must figure it out fast, because Chronos is back, and this time, he specifically asked for her.
Variations
- 1. Nyla discovers that Titan has been taking credit for her tactical plans for years. Every 'brilliant save' was her strategy executed by his superpowers.
- 2. Chronos doesn't want to fight Nyla — he wants to recruit her. He was a sidekick too, once, before his hero made the same choice.
- 3. Nyla's powers are actually stronger than Titan's. She's been subconsciously suppressing them because being the sidekick felt safer than being the hero.

Frequently Asked Questions
- How do I subvert superhero tropes?
- Focus on the human cost of heroism. Superhero stories usually celebrate the hero; this prompt centers the person who does the unglamorous work. The subversion is emotional, not cynical.
- Does Nyla need superpowers?
- That's your choice. She's compelling either way — a powered person who chose support over spotlight, or an unpowered person who kept up through skill and courage.
- How do I write action scenes in text?
- Short sentences for impacts. Longer sentences for tension-building. Focus on what the character feels physically and emotionally during the fight. The best text action scenes are visceral, not choreographic.
